What Remains of Open Monument Day 2025 — and What Awaits Us in 2026

On the walls of the tower rooms of our Erlöserkirche there are notes written in chalk. They date from the post-war period, when bells that had originally served in Potsdam's Garnisonkirche took the place in the Erlöserkirche of the bells melted down in the Second World War. Anyone who climbed the narrow staircase with us on Open Monument Day in September 2025 saw such traces with their own eyes. Beside them: the bell “Auguste Viktoria” from the original set — still preserved, long since out of service, but a heavy, silent piece of history.

It was not a quiet day. Three shorter concert interludes accompanied the afternoon — performed by small ensembles whose sound unfolded a very particular effect in our church interior.

The day closed with a concert by the senior cantorate under the direction of Ud Joffe — a concert appreciated by all present and one that will stay in our memory. We thank Ud Joffe and all the singers for this wonderful support.

At the end of the day we were able to receive 605 euros in donations. A figure that may seem modest on its own — but every note and every coin stands for someone who shares our cause: preserving this church in the heart of the Brandenburger Vorstadt. For that we are grateful.

Planning for 2026 is already under way. On 13. September 2026 we would like to take part in Open Monument Day again and open our doors wide. You can read here in the coming months what awaits you. If you would like to be there: do make a note of the date.
