Let us start with the obvious: we are not a big apparatus. No office, no paid staff, no marketing budget. We are fifteen people who have come together because a piece of the Brandenburger Vorstadt is close to their hearts.
And we believe that is exactly the right starting point.
What drives us – and what does not
We are a friends' association with a concrete structural mission: to preserve the fabric of the Erlöserkirche and its ensemble so that this place of encounter lives on.
Services, pastoral care, parish work – that is what the church parish does. We concentrate on the building itself, on the shell that makes every service, every concert evening and every quiet moment in this space possible in the first place.
What drives us is not duty. It is the conviction that this place belongs to the people who live here. And that it is worth doing something for it.
The pastor is on board – and that is no coincidence
Our friends' association and the parish are not separate worlds. The pastor of the Erlöserkirche is himself a member of the friends' association. That says something about how we understand the task: not as a parallel structure, but as a shared cause.
Preserving the church means: strengthening the community that lives in it.
Who We Work For
For the families who bring their children to more than just the children's service. For the neighbours who know the sound of the bells as part of their everyday life. For the concertgoers who treasure this space with its special acoustics. For the long-time residents who know what this church meant during the GDR era. And for everyone who has no direct connection yet – but senses that historic places like this do not preserve themselves.
Church membership is not a prerequisite.
What Getting Involved Means
Becoming a member costs 30 euros a year. Nothing more is needed. You do not have to appear at meetings, you do not have to get actively involved – although that is of course welcome. Being a member means above all: you stand behind this community project.
And that makes a difference. A friends' association with 10 members and one with 100 members are two different things – not only financially, but in their voice, their visibility, their impact.
If you prefer not to become a member, you can also support this place directly – one-off or regularly, in any amount. That too is getting involved.
